Saints work out Hakeem Nicks, other WRs

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the New Orleans saints are working out a group of wide receivers today, including former New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Nicks, who has been in the NFL since 2009, has spent every season except 2014 with the Giants, compiling career totals of 356 receptions, 5,081 receiving yards, and 31 touchdowns. Nicks has set new career lows in receiving yards per game each of the last two seasons, first going for 25.3 yards per game with Indianapolis in 2014, and then going for 9.0 yards per game across just six contests for the Giants in 2015. Since New Orleans released veteran wide receiver Marques Colston before the start of this season, the team currently has one of the youngest wide receiving groups in the NFL. Willie Snead, who went undrafted out of Ball State in 2014, made his startling debut with the saints last season, going for 984 receiving yards on an extremely small futures contract . The team is also relying on high draft picks Brandin Cooks (#20 overall, 2014) and Michael Thomas (#47 overall, 2016), to produce when still on their cost-controlled rookie deals. The team also filled in the spot of departing tight end Ben Watson, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens, by signing Nicks’ former teammate, Coby Fleener, from the Colts.
