Saints kicker Josh Scobee expects ‘cut and dry’ competition with Kai Forbath

Clik here to view.Josh Scobee has always loved the idea of kicking in New Orleans. Scobee, who spent 11 years in Jacksonville, knows the saints and the state of Louisiana well. A Texan who grew up in Longview, Scobee made his name at the collegiate level kicking for Louisiana Tech, and the experience made an impression. “All my friends were always big saints fans,” Scobee said at the saints Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday. “This was the place that I knew I’d like to play if I wasn’t with Jacksonville.” Scobee, 33, finds himself in a much different place than last year. Entrenched as the Jaguars’ kicker for so many years, Scobee lost a training-camp competition to Jason Myers and spent the first four weeks of the season trying to adjust to a new situation with the Steelers. Battling an injured quadricep, Scobee was released after making 6-of-10 field goals in his first four games with the Steelers. “When I was with Pittsburgh last year, it was kind of hard to enjoy it, because everything happened so fast,” Scobee said. “This time, the transition was a whole lot easier.” Now, Scobee finds himself competing against veteran Kai Forbath , who made 9-of-13 field goals after signing with the saints midseason, including a pair of game-winners.
