Bob Belvedere and The Camp of the saints should be a regular read for those concerned about the direction of the country. At times, he’s pretty pessimistic. I usually keep coffee and antidepressants available. Today he posted a terrific piece on the overreach of the federal government and what states and patriots should do: One Power we have never delegated to any of governments, however, is the Right to resist actions by our Servants that violate this compact. It is a Fundamental, a Natural, Right the Sovereign People hold, as stated in The Declaration Of Independence: That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government and other Founding decrees…. One tactic that one can use to alter the Form Of Government, the Founders believed, was through resistance to unconstitutional acts of the government. When The Townsend Duties were passed by Parliament in 1767 and 1768, many towns across the Colonies resisted the Acts through agreeing to not important any British goods as long as the Acts were still the law. The Colonists also resisted the Tax on tea by refusing to allow ships carrying British tea to be landed on our shores and by refusing to purchase or drink any of it.
